Quest Facilitator Code of Conduct

The quality of our Facilitation Team is critical to the success of our programs. We therefore take the training and selection of our teams very seriously. Before Facilitators step into a role on one of our programs they must have:

  • Undertaken our Quest Facilitator Training Program,
  • A current Police Check/Working with Children Check,
  • Public Liability insurance,
  • Experience facilitating groups in personal/professional development programs,
  • Experience coaching or counselling individuals in a process of self-discovery and empowerment, and
  • Experience working with young people.

Once a prospective facilitator has met the above requirements, we then invite them to attend a program as a Trainee Facilitator to allow them to observe the program first-hand but not taking a lead role in delivering the program. This allows the Trainee Facilitator to learn the intricacies of delivering our programs and also ensures we can be confident that they are a both a skilled facilitator and a reliable and psychologically safe person.

Once facilitators have been through a training process and accredited to work as either an Assistant or Lead Facilitator on a Quest program, we ask them to commit to the following practice principles.

1. Protection of Participants

  • I will protect all participants in Quest programs by not taking advantage of any information they may share, or any vulnerabilities they may express.
  • I will not form any intimate or sexual relationship during or after a program for a minimum of 6 months. If a consensual relationship is sought by both a Facilitator and a participant after 6 months, the Facilitator must check in with a Lead Facilitator to ensure the appropriateness of the relationship.
  • I will not engage in any physical or verbal intimacy during or after a Quest (e.g. no hand holding, kissing, long and lingering hugs, declarations of attraction or love).
  • If I feel a participant is crossing that line with me, I must disclose it to the Lead Facilitator and seek support.
  • If I observe behaviour from another Facilitator that violates the above principles, I must intervene.
  • I will disclose if in the past I have been in an intimate relationship with a participant or facilitator.

2. Individual and Group Wisdom

I will value and respect each individual participant and their decisions, the collective wisdom of the group, and the Quest team.

3. Service and Support

I will serve the needs of each individual in the Quest process and provide a safe and supportive environment for each individual and the group to the best of my ability.

4. Professional Knowledge and Skills

I will use my professional skills and experience to the best of my ability and work within my capacities and professional knowledge.

5. Honesty in Sharing of Ourselves

I will act as a member of the Quest community including, if appropriate, sharing issues that may arise for us in the community.

6. Team Working and Sharing

I will work with other Quest facilitators with honesty about myself and them, and for the benefit of the participants in achieving their goals and those of the Quest program.

7. Confidentiality

I will treat the shared stories and needs of all participants and fellow facilitators as confidential, and I will not to share them with people outside the program, but I am able to share my own experiences as I wish.

8. Conflicts of Interest

I will acknowledge and declare any conflicts of interest that may arise before, during or after any Quest program with fellow facilitators and the Quest organisation.

9. Continuous Learning and Growth

I commit to continuing my professional development as a facilitator/counsellor and I am open to accepting opportunities for my personal growth however they may arise.

10. Respect for Diversity

I will treat all people with equal respect and fairness regardless of race, creed, culture, gender or other difference.
